After watching the movie, “October 8,” I can agree with newly released hostage Liri Albag’s comment about the Palestinian community, “Dad, make no mistake, there are two million Palestinian terrorists! I sat with children 4 and 8 years of age who cursed the Jews.’
The movie examines the outbreak of anti-Semitic violence that occurred in the United States on numerous college campuses. While watching the crowds of students voicing their disgust, hate, and condemnation of Israel, along with their favorite chant, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!” I remembered that many students who voiced their chant did not know what river or what sea! They were paid protestors who followed the money to the selected site of the day.
The stories of personal experiences of antisemitism by students were heart-wrenching. So were the graphic images of those the terrorists murdered, including humans burned, Israelis kidnapped, and the innocents at the concert at Nova who were killed. I saw the cars of those who tried to escape only to be killed. In fact, they filled three empty fields! The movie gives a vivid and accurate description of the events of October 7 and the aftermath beginning October 8, 2023.
It also provided that the answer is to fight back against the hate and the lies. As the psalmist says in Psalm 120:6, “My soul has long dwelt with one who hates peace.” For Israel that involves people within their borders and their detractors around the world. But God is their “refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). He will never move!
