An Uneasy Peace

In News Surrounding Israel by Tim Munger

Secretary of State Pompeo hailed the twenty-fifth anniversary on Sunday the 27th  between Israel and Jordan. He said, “Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the State of Israel, an agreement that began a tradition of agreement that continues today.” While he praised the two nations, both are allies of the United States, both countries regard the peace as a ‘cold peace.’ “There is little public support for the agreement in Jordan,” Associated Press reported. Two grievances mentioned are the lack of progress in the Palestinian situation and “a change in the status quo on issues relating to the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem and other holy sites the Wakf oversees.”

While not ideal, an uneasy peace is certainly better than an outbreak of war. Hopefully, the peace will hold for many more years.
